Salted Caramel Apple Oatmeal

It’s finally starting to feel like fall and I couldn’t be happier. Fall means cozy sweaters, scented candles and warm socks. It also calls for warm and comforting dishes featuring ingredients and flavors such as pumpkin, cinnamon, apples and nutmeg, all some of my very favorites. This oatmeal is the quintessential fall breakfast dish.

I must confess though, I used an ingredient in here I don’t usually opt for. The caramel is Walden Farms brand which some of you might be familiar with. Their products are known for containing no sugar, fat, calories or basically anything at all. I’m not usually a fan of products like this because they might be lacking in calories and fat, but usually have a long list of ingredients. Luckily Walden Farms isn’t too terrible with their ingredients but if your budget and time constraints allow, I urge you to make a more natural caramel using dates.

Ingredients:
-1 cup of water or milk of choice
-1/2 cup of oatmeal
-1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce
-2-3 tablespoons of caramel flavor
-dash of stevia
-dash of cinnamon
-dash of sea salt

Directions:
Begin by boiling the milk or water and then stir in the oats. When all the liquid is nearly absorbed, stir in the applesauce, caramel, stevia, cinnamon and sea salt. Make sure the oatmeal has absorbed all the liquid and all other ingredients are stirred in. Best served next to a crackling fire. Enjoy!
